"AFTER OUR BREAK AND THE FLU"

ANOTHER RHYME I WRITE TODAY ABOUT OLD MOTHERHEN.

I KNOW THAT WHEN YOUV'E READ IT YOU'LL THINK I'M ROUND THE BEND.

AFTER OUR BREAK WE HAD AWAY TO CHESTER THE OTHER WEEK.

ROOSTER CAME HOME FEELING TERRIBLE FULL OF FLU AND SO WEAK.

YOU SEE THE WEATHER WAS VERY COLD RAINY AND WITH GALES.

SO MOST OF THE TIME INSTEAD OF SIGHT SEEING WE HAD TO SHOP IN THE SALES .

WELL I HAD A LIST IN MY HANDBAG OF THINGS I NEEDED TO BUY.

AS I CANNOT REMEMBER THINGS IN MY HEAD NO MATTER HOW I TRY.

WE POPPED IN AND OUT OF EVERY STORE BACK AND FORTH WE WENT.

TRUDGING AROUND IN THE COLD FOR HOURS BOTH OF US WE SPENT.

GETTING WET AS WE DODGED ABOUT UNTIL WE WERE FROZEN THROUGH.

THE OUTCOME OF OUR HOLIDAY I AM ABOUT TO TELL YOU.

WHEN THE COACH DROPPED US OFF IN ROOSTERS TOWN HE HAD TO DRIVE ME HOME.

ALL THE EIGHTY MILES HE SHIVERED AND NEVER ONCE DID MOAN.

WHEN WE ARRIVED BACK AT MY PLACE I SAID YOU ARE GOING TO BED.

YOU LOOK REALY BAD AND ON ARRIVAL COMPLAINED OF A SPLITTING HEAD.

NEXT DAY IT WAS TIME FOR ROOSTER TO TRAVEL BACK HOME TO THE COAST .

HE REALY DID LOOK TERRIBLE SO WHITE LOOKING LIKE A GHOST.

BEFORE HE LEFT I THOUGHT POOR LAD I'LL PACK HIM SOME MEDICATION UP.

FOR HIM TO TAKE FOR THE COLD AND FLU SO I QUICKLY PUT.

ALL THESE THINGS IN A BAG FOR HIM AND GAVE HIM INSTRUCTIONS TOO.

WHEN TO TAKE THEM EXPLAINING TO HIM JUST WHAT WAS BEST TO DO.

BEFORE YOU GO TO BED TONIGHT RUB SOME OF THIS VIC ON YOUR CHEST.

AFTER YOUR BATH WHEN YOUV'E HAD A GOOD SOAK THIS TIME IS THE BEST.

HE SAID OK LOVE I'LL DO THAT THANKYOU AND OFF HE DROVE AGAIN.

POOR OLD ROOSTER I KNEW HE ACHED AND HE WAS FULL OF PAIN.

HE RANG ME UP AS ALWAYS TO SAY HE'D ARRIVED HOME SAFE.

SO I CONTINUED UNPACKING THINGS PUTTING EVERYTHING IN THERE PLACE .

WELL COME TEN'O'CLOCK THAT EVENING HE RANG TO SAY GOODNIGHT.

THEN IN THE NEXT BREATH HE ASKED ME IF I WAS FEELING ALRIGHT.

I SAID YES OF COURSE I DO ROOSTER WHY DO YOU ASK ME THAT.

HE SAID WELL YOU SEE IV'E JUST BEEN MADE TO LOOK A RIGHT SILLY PRATT.

WHY WHATS WRONG WHATS HAPPENED I THOUGHT WHAT THE HECKS UP NOW.

WELL LET ME TELL YOU WHAT I DID AND FOR LAUGHING I DON'T KNOW HOW.

I SAID GOODNIGHT TO HIM ON THE PHONE BECAUSE I WAS CLUCKING SO LOUD.

HE SAID YOU MUST BE IN COOKOO LAND OR FLOATING ON A CLOUD. HE-HE.

WHEN I'D HAD MY BATH AND SOAKED A WHILE A KNOCK CAME TO MY DOOR.

IT TURNED OUT TO BE ONE OF HIS NEIGHBOURS FROM THE BOTTOM FLOOR.

TO TELL ROOSTER HE HAD BEEN DISCHARGED AND WAS HOME FROM THE HOPITAL.

HE TOOK ONE LOOK AT ME AND SAID YOU DON'T LOOK VERY WELL.

NO I SAID IV'E CAUGHT THE FLU BUG I'M JUST GOING TO RUB MY CHEST.

WITH THIS VIC MOTHERHEN HAS SENT FOR ME SHE SAID THAT IT'S THE BEST .

HE HAD THE BOX IN HIS HAND WHICH I SENT BUT HE'D NEVER LOOKED AT ALL.

THE NEIGHBOUR SAID OH WHEN YOU HAVE FINISHED I BET YOU'LL LIGHT UP THE HALL.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE ROOSTER SAID WELL LOOK AT THE BOX AGEN.

THATS NOT A BOX OF VIC IT'S A LIGHTBULB ONE OF THOSE SMALL HALLOGEN.

HE-HE I ROLLED WITH LAUGHTER WHEN HE TOLD ME ON THE PHONE.

I'D NEVER LOOKED AT IT EITHER WHEN I PACKED IT FOR HIM IN MY HOME.

YOU SEE I KEEP MY LIGHTBULBS IN A CUBOARD WITH MY FIRST AID.

AND I'D GRABBED THE SMALL BOX QUICKLY POPPED IT INTO THE BAG I HAD MADE.

I SAID OH!! WELL RUB THE LIGHTBULB ON IT MIGHT JUST BRIGHTEN YOU UP.

HE-HE.

ROLLING WITH LAUGHTER DOWN THE PHONE SIPPING MY BEDTIME CUP.

THE BOXES WERE VERY SIMILAR YOU SEE IN SIZE AND COLOUR RIGHT.

NOW ROOSTER IS SAYING I'M NOT ONLY DEAF AND DAFT BUT NEEDING NEW SIGHT. HE-HE.

SO ONCE AGAIN MOTHERHEN GOT IT WRONG LIKE MY LAST POST I MADE A BOOB.

HE SAID IF THESE HAPPENINGS WERE VIDEO'D THEY'D BE A HIT ON YOU TUBE .HE-HE

SO GOODNIGHT AND GODBLESS HE BID ME SAID DON'T WORRY ABOUT ME I'LL BE FINE.

JUST MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE CORRECT TIPPLE IN YOUR NIGHTCAP OR THEY'LL BE NO MORE

Hi Kath, Poor Rooster, I can just imagine the expression on his face when he opened the bag and found the light bulb...lol! I do hope he`ll feel much better soon though, despite not having any Vick.

I always have to write a list or I`m very likely to come home with nothing, well at least nothing that I wanted...lol! @o)

Love Sandra xxxx

So sorry the Rooster got the flu and hope he's all better by now. Hope your shopping was beneficial having to go in the rain and freeze while doing it. That's not much fun for sure. We'll all be checking our boxes now to make sure we've got the right thing before packing it thanks to your simple rhyme. Thanks for the smiles ! 'On Ya'-ma

Dear Kath..what are you like.
I always keep a jar of Vick in my Bedside drawer,an old remedy. trouble is with my 'condition' it is like having a cold and sore throat all year.
Was nice to see and recognise Chester, a very long time since we were there.

Oh dear so sorry to hear that poor old Rooster has been feeling poorly. I hope he's feeling better now and that you dont' get sick as well! I had to chuckle at the lightbulb, what are you like? lol Kath you did make me so homesick for Chester with your photos. I miss it so. Many's a time I've walked beneath that clock, shopping bags in hand. It's hard to believe it's been five years since we left to move down here. I miss it so very much and would move back tommorrow!!! I make myself a list always and yet still usually forget what it was I went for. My memory is terrible. Hope you stay well and don't get the flu but at least you have the vics. Love xx

I enjoyed reading about the bulb and Vic's mix-up. I hope Rooster is well over his flu by now. I had been keeping busy with cutting firewood from last summer that was in my yard and around my property. It had been cut with a small chain saw and I have been cutting up the small branches with my hand saw to fit the woodburner. Things have been sore for me recently and lifting my dumbbells may be the reason. However the weather has a lot to do with my not feeling well. mark
