" MY LATEST VISIT A BIT OF HISTORY FOR YOU"

WELL I THOUGHT I'D DO A POST TODAY TO LET ALL OF YOU KNOW.

I AM A LITTLE BETTER NOT GREAT BUT I DID GO.

ALONG TO " OAKWELL HALL" TODAY A PLACE NOT FAR FROM ME.

MANY TIMES IV'E VISITED SO NOTHING NEW I SEE.

I THOUGHT YOU MIGHT BE INTERESTED TO KNOW OF "OAKWELL HALL."

MANY FUNCTIONS HAVE TAKEN PLACE HERE PLUS THE MAYORS BALL.

WELL WHEN MY KIDS WERE TINY I USED TO GO HERE LOTS.

THE GROUNDS THEY MAKE FOR LOVELY WALKS AND THERES MUCH FOR TINY TOTS.

HISTORICALLY KNOWN FOR LOTS OF THINGS BUT ONE I'LL TELL TODAY .

ABOUT SOMEONE VERY SPECIAL WHO USED TO COME AND STAY.

YES CHARLOTTE BRONTE VISITED THE HALL TO SEE HER CLOSEST FRIEND.

THE HALL WAS USED AS A SCHOOL THEN AND HERE SHE DID ATTEND.

HER NAME WAS ELLEN NUSSEY AND WHEN CHARLOTTE SAW THE HALL.

SHE WAS INSPIRED TO WRITE ABOUT IT I BELIEVE THAT YOU WILL ALL.

HAVE READ THE BOOK CALLED.... " SHIRLEY"..... WELL THE MANOR HOUSE - FIELDHEAD.

IT WAS ACTUALLY "OAKWELL HALL" SHE USED FOR THE SETTING YOU'LL HAVE READ.

CHARLOTTE LOVED THE BUILDING THE LATTICED WINDOWS FINE.

THE GRANITE URNS ON THE GARDEN WALL THOUGHT THE GARDENS WERE DEVINE.

THE AREA ALL AROUND OAKWELL IS CALLED FIELDHEAD TO THIS DAY.

SO THIS MUST HAVE BEEN WHERE SHE GOT THE NAME OF THE MANOR HOUSE I SAY.

IT IS SET IN PERIOD GARDENS SURROUDED BY A COUNTRY PARK.

RESTORATION WORK DONE ON THESE GARDENS AND TAKEN BACK TO THE ARK.

THEY HAVE BEEN MADE LIKE THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE YEAR 1690 YES.

WELL WHEN A PLACE IS SO HISTORICAL THIS IS GOOD I GUESS.

THE BUILDER WAS A MAN NAMED BATT.... JOHN.... HIS CHRISTIAN NAME.

THEY SAY HIS GHOST APPEARS AT TIMES SO FOR THIS THE HALL HAS FAME.

THERES ALSO AN INVALID PLAYGROUND SO LESS MOBILE KIDS CAN PLAY.

ALONGSIDE ALL THE OTHER CHILDREN WHEN OUT FOR THE DAY.

I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED DEAR "OAKWELL HALL" MANY MEMORIES IN THESE GROUNDS.

FOR ME AS A YOUNGSTER BESIDES MY CHILDREN SO INTERESTING TOO IV'E FOUND.

I WAS BORN IN THIS AREA AND THEN AS THE YEARS PASSED ON.

I MET MY DEAR OLD ROOSTER AND WE SETTLED THEN UPON.

A LITTLE VILLAGE CALLED GOMERSAL VERY PRETTY TOO IT WAS.

I'M TELLING YOU THIS ABOUT WHERE I LIVED THE REASON IS BECAUSE.

IN GOMERSAL ALSO THERES A PLACE CALLED "RED HOUSE" WITH LINKS AS WELL.

WHICH PROVIDED THE INSPIRATION FOR "BRIAMAINS" IN THE SAME NOVEL DOES DWELL.

SO I MIGHT FOLLOW UP WITH A POSTING ON "RED HOUSE MUSEUM " IT'S FREE.

WHERE THE SAME AGAIN I TOOK MY KIDS OFTEN THERES ALWAYS LOTS TO SEE.

NOW I'LL LEAVE YOU ONCE AGAIN FRIENDS WITH AN ADDED PICTURE HERE.

OF THE NEW CAMERA WHICH MY ROOSTER BOUGHT BUT IT'S COMPLICATED NO FEAR.

WILL I BE USING THIS VERY SOON ....I DON'T UNDERSTAND IT AT ALL .

ROOSTER BOUGHT IT SO HE CAN LEARN IT I'M MAKING IT HIS CALL HE-HE.

SO THE PICS TODAY IN MY POST FROM THE INTERNET BUT I'LL TRY DO MY OWN NEXT TIME.

WHEN ROOSTER EXPLAINS TO ME HOW TO USE IT BYE BYE FROM "MY SIMPLE RHYMES"

Thank you for the history and the pictures of those grand places. I love reading about those times and enjoyed your lesson. Hope the mysterious ways of that new camera can soon be solved. Have a wonderful Thursday. The weather is supposed to be dry and sunny here for a change!

That looks like a smart camera Kath! I enjoyed your historical trip via your rhymes and piccy's.
I have found out mine can do panorama photos and videos too but when I try to take close-ups my hand joogles and it blurs. I guess I need a tripod. I've come indoors today as it is too hot outside. Phew!
Glad you are feeling much better. Take it easy!

Oh Kath, this entry is so beautiful, so informative too. I love the pictures you used. It's been awhile, I know, but I'm back, just having to load up on pictures again. As well, I have to figure out how to get them where i want them. I am thinking copy and paste might work. Take care of yourself.Love you much.
